ABOUT

SANT SAYED PRITHI PAL SINGH JI

(1902 – 1969)

Sant Sayed Prithi Pal Singh Ji was born in 1902 to Pir Muzaffar Hussain Shah at Mirpur, in the Kashmir region. During his father’s journey to Hajj, he was taken along and was introduced to the philosophies and teachings of different religions.

During this period, he came across the handwritten work “Sihayato Baba Nanak Fakir”, attributed to Taajuddin Nagsabando. The work deeply influenced his understanding of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s travels and teachings.

Along with his family, he later went to Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore, where, according to the historical account, he was baptised into the Sikh faith by Giani Achhar Singh Ji and received the name Sayed Prithi Pal Singh.

During the agitation concerning the proposed construction of Gurdwara Shahid Ganj in Lahore, he became involved in the movement. The historical account records that he challenged a petition concerning the site and presented Islamic legal rulings (fatwas) in support of his position. The case was decided in 1967.

In 1967, he took part in a Nagar Kirtan in Southall and is recorded as having baptised 120 people into the Sikh faith. He is also recorded as having played a role in Sikh religious life in Kabul, Afghanistan, including the raising of the Nishan Sahib at Gurdwaras there.

In 1969, while preaching the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Kanpur Gurdwara, Sant Sayed Prithi Pal Singh Ji passed away.
